When you challenge the views of a weak person, you are challenging his/her existence i.e. threatening him/her, the response is directly from survival instinct - it's emotional, and they feel they are absolutely right (they kinda have to since it's a matter of life and death to them)
They don't think about it, like at all, and explaining your position doesn't work. It's like when you accidentally put your hand on a hot plate: the reaction doesn't even reach the conscious mind and when it does, the pain signal that follows will make sure that you can't be persuaded to put your hand back on the plate.
The only way you can reason with them, is to let them figure out it themselves, meaning the reality has to slap the delusions out of them. I hate it that you can't warn them preemptively, you have to just watch the slow motion car crash and then hear the smartest of them start spouting the exact same things you tried to tell them, without them actually realizing it nor admitting that they were wrong. And the more retarded ones won't even learn then..
TL;DR: Leave them to their own devices; "Let God sort'em out" Stop listening, stop explaining. Focus on yourself. That way people learn to take some responsibility for themselves, because there is no other choice.
