I wouldn't call it a prerequisite for being "smart" but I think that people that really are smart admit their own stupidity and/or doesn't care about their smartness, knowledgeability or wisdom. They are interested in everything else except themselves. They know that they know nothing and let the reality itself tell them what it is and what is their relation to it.
