This is my response to Sargon of Akkad's "I wouldn't even rape you"-tweet or rather a response to the outrage ensued because of it.
Sargon said an asshole thing, because no matter how it hurts it's his right to be an asshole. I think that's the point of the thing. You can't censor an opinion you don't like. The tweet was distasteful, yes, but it's his right to be distasteful.
And then there's the context of censorship and a sexual assault victim. So without breaking any laws, what do you say to a person, who advocates for censorship and is a sexual assault victim, to prove a point you have the right to be an asshole? You'd have to make it personal to be an asshole, right? To really drive it home that you don't have to like or have to be liked by everyone.
And as much as someone might hate the opinion, you really can do nothing about it: it's his right and that shouldn't change, because that would apply to you as well.
Internet is the place where we can share our thoughts and views without being killed for them, just because someone has an emotional response to someone else's opinion/thoughts. It's a place where we can begin to learn to tolerate each other and the different points of view.
