People get too hung up on words, they totally miss why we use them;
People can't see the forest for the trees.
The point of communication is to convey meaning, i.e. to be understood. So if you can correct someone, that directly implies that you know what the person meant, thus the meaning was conveyed. So the pronunciation isn't relevant if you got what the other person meant, and if you deliberately understand it wrong to prove a point (because you are trying to be coy, or not getting it "right" just irritates you), then you are just dishonest, petty, needlessly complicating things and wasting everyone's time, including your own. And if the meaning of something is unclear, you can always ask for clarification.
Also, do people having an accent speak everything "wrong"? Because they do pronounce everything differently. Are they not "correct"? Are they "wrong" all the time?
Having different ways of saying things is like having different seasoning, it spices things up a bit.
PS. And no, I'm not fun at parties, and I don't attend to them because I have the decency not to waste everyone's time: It's better for me, and for everyone wanting to have fun.
