Everyone's biased one way or another. They will support the things that make their lives easier and oppose the things that make it harder. That's what it is about, letting your voice be heard: this does not suit me nor does it go along with my values.
Pretending to be any better than anyone else is self-delusional. Even if one has altruistic values, they are still his/her values.
