*(Incel stands for Involuntarily Celibate)
Which in my opinion implies the lack of self-confidence and -worth: you need a group identity and/or something external to demonize to convince yourself that you are "good", this includes getting the validation from others as well i.e. virtue signalling: "Look, I'm against THOSE people, I'm not like them."
Just to get the acknowledgement: "You did Y to the person who was X, you're a good boy/girl! You did good! Now you belong. You aren't worthless, you are a hero, just like in the movies. You did it for 'the cause'. You are now one of us, you belong. Here's your validating label, your external status, your identity."
PS. The reason bullies bully others (usually the people somehow weaker than them) is because of their own insecurities. The very act is proves it: if you need to prove something, then you aren't very sure about it = insecurity = weakness.
Here's a question to ask a bully: "Do I or Does X really make you feel that insecure? [So much that you have to prove yourself?]"

And it won't be long until that wears off and you feel worthless again, and then you need another fix.
TL;DR: People can't respect and value themselves as they are, so they need to put others down to feel better in comparison i.e. at least I'm better than that, at least I'm not X. So I must have value.
