The way I see it, it's just jealousy; it's about not having the monopoly on men's sexual release. It's about not having the upper hand in the dating market, not having the ability to picky, not having the power over other people, and about the fear of being left behind, not being the first and only choice, not being the center of attention.
Another examples of this are shitty countries and cults, they'll try prevent you from leaving; they'll try to force you to choose them by eliminating your access to better options. It all stems from them being dependent on you.
Whenever you see someone banning and prohibiting something, they always have a vested interest. Even if it were your parents who try stop you from committing a suicide (It's not always malicious, but I have yet to see an instance where it isn't self serving.)
Usually the argument is that the dolls in question are "too good looking" to compete against, to that I must ask, is that really all you have to offer: Your looks? Is there anything else? Just think about it: a piece of plastic has no personality, nor is it alive, what it does is just look good. So if you really are that empty, and there nothing you want to do about it (like being likable as a person) then yeah, you are going to lose the competition.
Maybe that's the reason the competition in this case exists: since the looks are the only thing there is and ever was on table, one might as acquire them cost effectively and with a guarantee that it doesn't fuck you over, cheat on you, press false charges, lead you on.. etc; One buys a doll and gets the only the positive aspects of the deal. And where there is demand of something, there will be supply of it.
I think people who are threatened, and desperately competing against a piece of plastic should really do some self-reflecting..
