e.g. If someone suggests you a team up to find all the hidden Easter eggs and then share the collected eggs 50/50 afterwards; Let's say you collect 6 eggs and your new partner collects 4 eggs, that's 10 total, then you split them 50/50, which gives both of you 5 eggs = You are better off alone.
That is unless someone better than you is stupid enough to team up with you OR the collected things aren't the same i.e. one collects eggs the other collects something else.
PS. There are other scenarios where teaming up IS beneficial, like:
You have X amount of time to find all the eggs, and the amount of remaining time after the fact add up to something. i.e. you have to gather certain amount of something fast as possible e.g. all the kittens before they poop all over the place.
But anyway to point was that we are all alone in this world, and should only look out for ourselves, because that's what we do regardless we consciously know it or not.
